Kempton Tips for Today

There’s a competitive eight-race jumps card at Kempton on Monday evening, and our tipping duo of Alan Kelly and Charlie McCann have the action covered with their free Kempton tips - click on their links below for more information!

Below, we’ve highlighted two betting angles to remember when looking to place a wager at Kempton.

The right way

Kempton is a right-handed course, the only all-weather track in the UK which is, so just because a horse has run well at other all-weather tracks, it doesn’t mean that they will at Kempton. Some horses prefer going left-handed or right-handed, so course form at Kempton can be vital.

Stamina to the fore

Although seen as a fair and galloping jump track, Kempton can be a challenge on Soft or Heavy ground - if the rain has come, look for horses with plenty of stamina and that enjoy a stiff test.

Top Kempton Jockeys

James Doyle and Oisin Murphy are jockeys to side with on the flat at Kempton Park, each boasting a strike rate of about 24%.

Nico de Boinville is the jockey to follow in hurdle races, with a strike rate hovering around the 28% mark, while Harry Skelton is the man over fences at Kempton - he boasts a 33% strike rate in chase races in recent seasons.

Top Kempton Trainers

On the flat, Charlie Appleby is the man to follow - he’s sitting with a strike rate of over 30% over the past few seasons.

Jump racing fans should keep an eye out for Dan Skelton and Amy Murphy, who, although she rarely has runners at the course, has a fantastic strike rate, particularly with her chasers.

Kempton Racecourse Layout & Info

Kempton Racecourse is located in Sunbury-on-Thames, Middlesex, 16 miles west of central London.

Home to all-weather flat and jump racing, Kempton is best known for its two-day Christmas Festival, which is a highlight of the festive racing period, featuring the King George VI Chase, the Christmas Hurdle, and the Kauto Star Novices’ Chase.

Flat Racing

Kempton switched to Polytrack from turf in 2006, and it is a popular venue for evening racing throughout the year.

The flat track at Kempton is a right-handed oval with two loops, approximately a mile round, with the outer circuit a mile-and-a-quarter.

Although generally a fair track, races run over 5 furlongs, 1 mile 1 furlong, and 1 mile 2 furlongs are run on the inner loop, meaning a low draw is advantageous, as is being ridden up with the pace - very few horses come from behind in races over those distances.

Jump Racing

The jump track at Kempton is well-known as being one of the fairest in the UK, with relatively easy fences.

Typically, many runners remain in contention into the final turn before getting strung out a little over the final fence - you need a horse that travels and jumps to get home at Kempton.

Kempton’s main focus is over the festive period, when it hosts two Grade 1 races, including the King George Chase, and three Grade 2 contests.

The main feature on the flat is in September with the Group 3 Sirenia Stakes and Group 3 September Stakes.
